The Art of Feedback

Feedback is one of the top tools managers must employ to develop relationships with team members, execute goals and maintain their team members’ performance. It is also a key factor – when not present – to lack of engagement, sub-optimal performance and poor retention.

In this edition, I’ve chosen two podcast episodes that address not only the tactical approach of providing feedback, but also the art of understanding others in order to optimize communications on teams, which bring out the best performance.

In Stanford Graduate School of Business ‘Think Fast, Talk Smart’ podcast, the episode, Give It To Me Straight: The Power of Honest, Constructive Feedback focuses on key communications in developing your managers, so they can develop your top talent.

This episode includes a great interactive approach to a feedback framework: Expectations, Measurement, Feedback, Obstacles, Support and Alignment.

In Harvard Business Review’s HBR Ideacast, the episode, Getting Feedback Right On Diverse Teams, explores how unknown cultural differences can impact feedback, perceptions of power and overall team dynamics.
